This project is one component of a large, multi-faceted, statewide approach to reducing the deadly impact of opioid abuse and overdose on the citizens of South Carolina.

SC MAT ACCESS is charged with helping to expand access to medication assisted treatments (known as MAT) for opioid addiction.

Despite significant demand for services across the state, residents of many counties have little or no access to MAT. The map below shows counties with access to a methadone clinic (diamond) or healthcare provider waivered to prescribe buprenorphine/suboxone (number of wavered providers in red).

This project is funded by the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse Services (DAODAS) through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), made possible by the 21st Century Cures Act. The grant is titled State Targeted Response to the Opioid Crisis.
